Structural Biology of Age-Related Neurodegenerative Disorders
Alzheimer’s disease and other age-related dementias afflict 6 million Americans and their care is estimated to cost $321 billion annually (www.Alz.org). Safar Laboratory focuses on advancing our understanding of these neurodegenerative diseases, a critical first step toward developing new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies. The long-term objective of basic and translational research in Safar Lab is to define the fundamental molecular mechanisms that are responsible for initiation, progression, and phenotypic diversity of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Alzheimer’s diseases related dementias (ADRD), and prion diseases.
